UTILISATION OF FLY ASH IN AGRICULTURE

The study was carried out from Oct' 90 to March'98. The conclusion drawn from the studies are:

• The presence of potentially toxic metals viz, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Mn, Pb, Zn and Hg have been found in Permissible limits.

• Levels of essential trace elements, nutritional parameter such as starch, Protein, Vitamin 'C' and 'E' did not show any decrease in the crops produced in fly ash amended soil.

• Consumption of fly ash amended crops did not cause any hematological changes relative organ weight, body organ weight ratio, blood glucose, liver glycogen etc.

• Reproductive performance and growth of next generation were also unaffected.

• Enzyme profile confirmed that there is no abnormality in vital organ function.

• Thus it can be concluded that the amendment of soil with fly ash is safe for  agriculture purposes.
