Prevention is better than cure and this is indeed true in case of environmental pollution. A strong need is felt today, on global basis, to conserve the natural resources like air, water and soil to sustain the quality of environment for future generation and only a judicious use of these natural resources can prevent the environment degradation and its ill effects on human health due to pollution.

Keeping this pious objective, to save the environment, in the forefront, the Govt. of India has made provisions in the constitution for the protection and improvement of environment to take care of the health & safety of people as well as of flora and fauna. The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act,. 1974 was the first enactment by the Parliament in this direction, followed by Water (Prevention and control of pollution) Cess Act, 1977, Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991. Number of other rules have also been framed and passed by the Parliament under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

The responsibilities of implementation of these Acts has entrusted to the pollution Control Boards/ Committees and these agencies are trying their best to meet the objectives. In Madhya Pradesh State the M.P Pollution Control Board is looking after the responsibility to implement the said environmental norms, broadly as follows:

Many areas in the environment field are of interest to common citizens and industrialists. Industry owners often have number of queries and information of their interest pertaining to establishment of industry, consents/NOC under relevant Acts, grant of Authorization, Suggestions and guidelines for prevention and Control of Pollution etc. In order to facilitate common citizens and target groups, this organization has come out with its Web Site on the net where versatile matters of common interest have been depicted and thus, I am sure, would be very useful for all concerned.
